Breckenridge Animal Clinic Hospital Policies
To allow ample time for all patients and scheduled surgical procedures, we operate primarily by appointment.  Emergency cases shall always receive top priority, which is why occasional appointment delay is inevitable. Walk-in clients are discouraged and may not be able to be seen right away.

Please realize that we make a sincere attempt to see each client on time.

For your convenience, drop-off appointments are available.  A 'drop off' means you could bring your pet at the time that works best for you and leave him/her with us for a couple of hours.  Usually we will ask you to drop off sometime in the morning so our doctors can examine the patient in between appointments or at the time purposely reserved for admitted patients.  Once the doctor is done, she will give you a call to go over the diagnosis and to give you discharge instructions.

Featured Pet - Haley Rice
I started out life in 1999 at the Boulder Humane Society.  After a couple of homes that just weren't a good fit for me, I was back at the Humane Society waiting for a loving family. This time I was in a pen with a dog that constantly jumped on me and bit my ears - I did
not like that at all so I crouched in the corner of my pen and hid with my head down all day.  No one really looked at me.  One Saturday in March, a little girl was there trying to coax me up.  She spoke very gently to me and said "Hold on, I will go get my Dad and Step Mom to help you".  My future Mom, Johna was looking at an abandoned cat when the little girl said "Hurry you have got to come look at this wonderful dog that looks just like Vali (their dog that had died a few months before). Well, I got out of my pen so we could meet outside and strutted my stuff.  My future Dad, Byron and  Mom, Johna thought I was perfect for them and applied for my adoption on the spot. I couldn't believe this was happening to me!!! I knew these were the ones that would be my forever family.  I got to go to the mountains where there was lots of snow to play in. They changed my name to "Haylee" which was definitely ME.

Appointments
For your protection, and that of others, all dogs must be on a leash and properly controlled while in the waiting area or exam rooms.

All cats must be presented in an appropriate cat carrier or on a leash.

For the safety of all animals in our care, we require that all vaccinations be up to date.  Even though we make every effort to make our patients feel comfortable during visits, they may be a little uneasy about new people, new surroundings and other pets.  This is one of the reasons we ask you to restrain your pet.  We recommend that animals be placed on a leash or in pet carriers before entering the waiting room.

I went to puppy school and turns out my doggie IQ is pretty high (I knew it all the time :).  I loved playing in the snow and like all other mountain dogs I pulled my ACL. Dr Ed fixed it up just fine for me. Then I pulled it again and I had a TPLO. Soon my leg was strong again for hiking, swimming and running though the snow.  Running in my Mom’s snowshoe tracks was my specialty. I traveled all over with my Mom and Dad. We went to Moab a
lot where I swam in our secret creek spot and Ken's Lake. I loved chasing balls and sticks in the water - so I brought back hundreds of thrown balls to please my Mom and Dad. What I really liked best, was diving for rocks.  I would look for just the right one, blow air out my nose making funny bubbles in the water while I picked up the best rock ever - sometimes it was really big but I put them in piles on the shore. When it was time to go, I always brought my favorite rock back home or to the car. I think my Mom has a pile of my rocks in her garden.

Fall of 2006 I developed diabetes. Luckily,  I had Dr Christy to take care of me and teach my Mom and Dad how to check my blood and give me insulin shots twice a day. I didn't even mind getting stuck with a needle on a regular basis. My eagle eyes had a few cataracts from the high blood sugar but a doctor in Denver said I could see as well as when I was a pup. I played in the snow, ran, swam, chased balls, played with my doggie friends and felt great - life was good for me.  To make sure my liver and kidneys were ok, I had quarterly blood work and regular ultrasounds. I heard my Mom tell Dr Christy she was glad they had pet insurance on me. I wasn't sure what that meant but I was glad she was happy. My knee became arthritic and I had pulled my other ACL so I needed a TPLO on that leg. My Mom and Dad and Dr Christy decided the surgery wasn't a good idea since I was diabetic so I slowed down a bit to compensate. I was 10 - life was great. Mom made homemade organic meals for me every day.  Last Fall we rented a big home on wheels (an RV they called it). Mom, Dad, my kitty brother Taco and I drove all the way to Tampa Florida - I had so much room and I watched out the front window as we went through a bunch of new and fun places. The temperature was a bit hot for me at time but I really loved the ocean.

A nasty little bug took hold of my kidneys in late October a few days shy of my 12th birthday. I wasn't strong enough to fight it with my diabetes. When I jumped over the Rainbow Bridge I saw all my friends there - it was so beautiful! I still play in the grass and snow, chase balls and dive for the best rocks. I am in the hearts of my Mom and Dad each and every minute of the day and night and they are in mine. A friend of my Mom's gave her a little plaque. This is what it says. It's so true!

Grieve not,
Nor speak of me with tears,
But laugh and talk of me
As if I were beside you...
I loved you so -
It was heaven here with you

Lots of Love from Haylee Rice
